The Salvation Army Kroc Community Center Update
The Kroc Center has been six year in the making from grant application and we were finally able to break ground on this $44 million dollar project recently!  This project is approximately 25% complete and the 140,000 square feet center is scheduled to be completed in April 2012.  Sigma Contracting is providing Project Management services and have been working with The Salvation Army to oversee  both design and construction, as well as assisting in their fundraising efforts.

With classrooms, library, computer center, art rooms, and music rooms Phoenix residents will have endless programming opportunities to enhance their lives.  The Kroc Center will have a 300 seat chapel that will also serve as a theater for live productions or presentations.  There will be three full size basketball courts, an indoor jogging track, a 35’ rock climbing wall, indoor swimming pool and a full service fitness center.  There will also be a wellness center and community center for those in need of health tips or meeting spaces.  Another major component of this center will be outdoor fields for football, soccer, baseball and other field sports.  This will be a state of the art facility that will offer opportunities for inner city families that otherwise might not have those experiences, and will offer recreational and fitness opportunities for the young through the elderly..  The Kroc Center will provide a great economic benefit to the entire south mountain community of Phoenix!

Fundraising is still ongoing and we have yet to raise about $3 million dollars more to complete our goal of $18.5 million.  In addition to capital costs we are fundraising to create an endowment to allow The Salvation Army to operate this facility for the next 40 years as they have done with their existing community center on this site.   The Kroc Foundation is providing a $3.5 million dollar for dollar match for the last $3.5 million raised.  Please contact Dan Hinkson at (602) 788-7800 if you would like additional information on this fund raising effort!
